What should I wear to my first Jiu-Jitsu lesson?

Gym attire is perfectly fine.  You do not need to have your own GI (uniform) to participate in your first class. However we do have loaner GI's available. They are first come first serve.

What can I expect in my first Jiu-Jitsu lesson?

In your first group lesson, you will be partnered with an experienced instructor or senior student. This is done to ensure your safety and to maximize your understanding of the basics. Your instructor will then teach you some fundamental Jiu-Jitsu techniques so that you fully comprehend what Gracie Jiu-Jitsu self defense is all about!

Adult students typically feel confident jumping directly into group classes. However, if an adult or child is feeling a bit apprehensive about stepping onto the mat, we highly recommend trying a private lesson. Many adults prefer private lessons to group lessons altogether.

How do I get started?

We offer a 7 Day free trial to new students that is 100% FREE. We do not believe in hard sales-pitches or pressuring people to join. If you are not completely impressed with our academy and choose not to join, all that we ask is for some feedback so that we can continue to improve. We want people to be fully confident in their decision to join our academy with zero reservations.Complete the waiver below to save time registering for your first class.

Do I need to be in shape before I start Jiu-Jitsu lessons?

Absolutely not!  Our warm-up portion of the class can be challenging and can increase your endurance and physical fitness levels, however, you will not be expected to push yourself to the point of physical exhaustion. There is no need to feel embarrassed or limited by your level of conditioning, age or body type. It is our job to build you up, not break you down. This is the Gracie way.

Many people believe they need to be an athlete in order to participate in martial arts. Our classes are structured for people with little to no experience.

Gracie Jiu-jitsu is based on proper timing, technique and leverage. Students do not need to be in excellent physical condition in order to have success with our program.  Although, consistent training in the grappling arts can lead to several physical benefits, including weight loss and improved aerobic and anaerobic conditioning.
